Phylliss Bailey Brooks

Hailing from Los Angeles, Phylliss Bailey Brooks, is an actor, vocalist, theatrical director/producer, and performance coach. She is pleased to keep extremely busy with all four!

She has served as director/producer, musical director, and/or vocal director/arranger for over 200 stage and tv projects, her latest directing FAME JR, PETER PAN, THE LION KING, JR, ALADDIN JR, and INTO THE WOODS, JR and FAME, The Musical at LA’s Mastad Theatre. She recently directed the award winning GIL SCOUT-HERON’S BLUESOLOGY at The SoHo Playhouse in New York, and FROM EMMETT TILL TO SNCC and Beyond at Highways Theatre, Santa Monica. Phylliss is also an instructor for The Groundlings Theatre and School for their Master Class series. 

She honors the work of each and every thespian under her tutelage. As an actor, her vast theatrical experience includes, Hair, Twelfth Night, Fats, The Vagina Monologues, MENS, Proud, Little Shop Of Horrors, Ain’t Misbehavin’, and one of the original cast members of Tony Award winning, Jelly’s Last Jam to name a few.  She has traveled the world entertaining diverse audiences with her critically acclaimed one woman show. Phylliss was thrilled to be employed with Norwegian CruiseLines ( NCL ), as a traveling entertainer with her act, opening for such greats as Ellen DeGeneres and Joan Rivers. Her early career climb, still as a Television Arts student at USC, took her behind the tv camera as a part of Norman Lear’s sitcom camp with numerous seasons on his ionic tv shows from GOOD TIMES, ALL IN THE FAMILY and DIFF’RENT STROKES, to FACTS OF LIFE, MAUDE, and THE JEFFERSONS. Other noted shows includes IN LIVING COLOR, MADTV, and THE THUNDERMANS for Nickelodeon. Phylliss recently was the acting coach for Jordyn Macintosh on Hulu’s UNPRISIONED with Kerry Washington and Delroy Lindo, and has worked as dialogue/acting coach to the younger cast members on ABC’s hit, BLACKish. This vast tv experience has been invaluable as a performer and as a performance director, working with the very best in the craft.

She is thrilled to serve her artistic community. All that she does is in honor of her Super Angel mom, Dorothy L. Bailey, and her SuperHero late husband, Blair Graham Brooks, Sr!  An Inner City Cultural Center Alumnus.
