Presented by Father Amde
Co-Founder of the Watts Prophets
We provide writing workshops, vocal, music, poetry, book making and greeting card making classes that culminates in a community Arts Faire giving children the opportunity to express themselves freely and let them know their voice is valuable. The workshops are designed to foster creativity and critical thinking, create entrepreneurs and promote a deeper understanding of social issues through the exploration of art.
The four week Summer Program we will cover
Writing from Your Heart
The original Watts Writers Workshop was one of the first cultural centers established in an urban ghetto.

The Workshop provides a way for the Black youth in Watts and the surrounding area to express their collective trauma.
The group uses poetry, essays, and stories about their life experiences as a form of healing and rebuilding.
Performing Arts
Performing arts classes can help children develop confidence, social skills, and creativity. They can also help children learn empathy, resilience, and teamwork. Children can learn to explore and articulate their feelings and they tend to have enhanced cognitive, motor, and social development to boot. But the benefits don’t end there. Getting up on stage can enrich your child’s life in all sorts of surprising ways.
